Things To Do When There’s Nothing To Do

When travelling, you can get bored. This happens quite often, it is not a holiday. You seem not to be able to do anything that you do often.

You cannot seem to bring yourself to anything you do too often. You cannot bring yourself to do anything you usually play or do so you will have to find something else to do.

Some different activities that I often do are; reading a book, go for a walk or ride, draw a picture, play a board game, take a nap, have a swim, climb a tree, do some school with your mum or dad, play a game of cricket, tennis, footy or other sport, do some sewing, play mathletics or other education games on the computer and play Lego. I have done all of these. They do not always work if you, like me, do half of these things nearly all of the time.

If these don’t work, I need to think of something else to entertain myself. One of my favourites is to explore the new place that we are in. Some of my favourite places that we’ve stayed for me to explore so far have been Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Andamooka, Gem Tree, and more. The reasons I liked these places in particular were the amazing views, and the luck of seeing them in a flood year. I prefer places where there are nice warm days, but with lots of shade or water so I can swim, sit in the shade or climb a tree when I get hot.

Like learning about the different places we’ve been. I love to ride and see if there are any sign boards with local history and tell the others. I like plalces better when they have these signs so that I can learn the local history. They often tell stories about Aboriginal dreamtimes, the formation of the land, how the first European settlers came to do the area and what they did, the animals of the region.

When I was in Melbourne, I could never even dream how many snakes, lizards, kangaroos, emus, birds and other animals there are in the country.

This means that it is easier to entertain myself travelling. There is often something new to see, do, learn or explore. I could not dream that it was so cold in the desert or that it was so green in colour

About Peter

Hello, my name is Peter, and I am eleven years old. I like to read, particularly fantasy and adventure. My favourite authors are Angie Sage, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, and J.K. Rowling.

I am traveling around Australia in a caravan with my Mum,Dad,baby brother and two sisters. My brother, Edmund, is two, and my sisters are named Lucy, who is six, and Susan, who is eight. My favourite places are Ayres Rock, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon, Mt. Hothom, Andamooka, Gem Tree and Phillip Island. At Ayres Rock, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyonn, we walked for ages. At Mt.hothom we skied for the whole season and tobboganned.

I like to read, listen to audiobooks on my ipod, ride my bike sing, memorise poems, take photos, maths, cooking, campfires, and swim. My favourite songs are by Louis Armstrong.

My sisters and I are homeschooled. Mum tells me sometimes that I have to read a particular book. Sometimes Mum tells me to read a book, and I usually say “No way! I hate that book!” but then once I read it I usually find I love it. It was like that with J.R.R.Tolkein, Angie Sage, Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl. I knew that I’d like L.Frank Baum, though, because Mum had played some of the Wizard of Oz audiobooks in the car.
